Are you looking to buy a home?

Permission has been granted for 1,000 new residential units to be built in South Dublin.

The new units are set to include both apartments and terraced houses.

The new homes will be built at Clay Farm in Ballyogan and will be made up of 927 units.

The new community will contain houses, apartments, and include a childcare facility, two retail units and 1458 parking spaces.

There is planned to be a total of 16 apartment blocks that will range in heights from 3-6 storeys and four-bed terraced houses set to be priced at €620,000.

When permission was first sought in January, Bord Pleanala rejected it as the developer had not provided adequate information as to how they would manage the risk of storm waters.

Since then the development has been given the green light and building is soon to start.

With Ireland currently in the grip of a housing crisis could more development projects like this be the answer?

If the amount of housing available finally meets the demand will the prices drop, allowing more families on middle and low incomes to be able to get on the property ladder?

With the price of houses costing well over €600,000 in this development, many families will still be out of the running but maybe if this undertaking is a success more projects like it will start to appear in reasonably priced areas suitable for first-time buyers.
