‘Am I wrong for making my daughter change venue for her birthday?’

How would you feel if your mother made you switch your birthday restaurant?

No doubt you’d be upset, but one mystery mother was so convinced she was in the right that she turned to Reddit to prove a point and, surprise surprise, it backfired.

Trying to explain her reasoning, the woman wrote: “My daughter recently had her 17th birthday. My husband and I told her to pick out a restaurant that she’d like us to take her to for her birthday.

“She chose a seafood restaurant that we’d never been to. In looking over the menu I saw that the vast majority of the dishes contained shellfish.

“There were a few fish entrees, as well as some surf and turf. But there were only a couple of non-seafood dishes.”

The problem? Apparently, her brother is deathly allergic to shellfish and there were only a few options for him to eat which the Redditor decided was more important than her daughter’s wishes.

Continuing her tale, she wrote: “I told my daughter that this restaurant wouldn’t work and that she would have to pick out a different one.

“My son said that he would be fine just staying home; that we could use the money that we would have spent on his meal to just order him a pizza instead.

“My husband also insisted that since it was our daughter’s birthday she should be able to choose the restaurant and that our son would be fine home alone with pizza and video games.”

So even though the son was happy to compromise and her husband agreed that their daughter deserved a special day, the poster wanted to switch the restaurant.

It seemed like the Redditor won the argument as she concluded: “We had a nice meal AS A FAMILY. But she is still a little salty that she didn’t get to have her first choice of restaurants.”

If she was looking for people to support her, she went to the wrong place as people quickly tore her apart for her “unfair” actions.

“Your daughter didn’t get what she wanted for her birthday. Your husband had no problem with it. Your son had no problem with it,” penned one.

“Essentially, you decided what you wanted was more important than anyone else, and would you look at that, you got what you wanted.”

Another agreed penning: “Why give her a choice then veto it? As an EpiPen carrier, I understand allergies. I don’t stop family or friends from eating where I can’t.”

“Your Husband is right. You chose your wants and your son’s needs over your daughter without first trying to reach a compromise,” added a third.
