Jack is the most popular name for baby boys born in Ireland.
Despite falling to second place in 2016, Jack once again claimed the top spot on list of boy baby names in the state in 2017.
Apart from 2016, Jack has been the number one boys’ name since 2007
The second most popular choice of baby boy name for Irish parents is James.
CSO figures for 2017 show that the third biggest name for boys is Daniel, with Conor in fourth place and Sean in fifth.
Rounding out the top ten are the names Noah, Luke, Harry, Adam and Michael.
Names that jumped in popularity between 2016 and 2017 include Alex, which moved from 17th on the list to 12th , and Fionn, which climbed seven places to 14th.
Girls’ names
There was no change at the top of the list of most popular baby girl names in the state in 2017.
For the seventh year in a row, Emily was the most commonly registered girls’ name in Ireland last year.
The second biggest baby girl name was Emma, which jumped from seventh place last year.
Amelia, Grace and Sophie were the third, fourth and fifth most popular baby girl names 2017 in Ireland.
Lucy, Hannah, Mia, Ava and Chloe filled fifth to tenth places on the list.
Sadie made the biggest jump of any name on the girls’ list, moving up from 39 to 24, while Sadie rose from 31st to 22nd.
