A woman has been jailed for shooting and killing her boyfriend in a botched YouTube “stunt” video.

Monalisa Perez shot Ricardo Ruiz through an Encyclopedia using a .50 calibre handgun last year while she was pregnant.

The couple were trying to create a viral video where a bullet was stopped by a book, however the bullet pierced the book and Ruiz died.

Sky News reports that 30 people including the couple’s daughter witnessed the incident.

Perez was sentenced to 180 days in jail after she pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter. Her sentence was reduced according to state guidelines.

Prior to the incident, Perez tweeted saying that the stunt was Ruiz’s idea.

She also said they were shooting “one of the most dangerous videos ever” for her YouTube channel that now has over 25,000 subscribers.

Minnesota attorney James Brue said:

“This foolish stunt was dreamed up, planned and executed by Pedro Ruiz, and the defendant wrongfully and tragically relied on his assurances that the stunt was safe.”

Perez has since given birth to the couple’s second child.

She will serve half of her sentence in prison and half in home confinement.

She will also be banned from owning a gun again.
