A primary school in Tokyo, Japan is facing criticism for their new uniform choice.

Taimei Elementary School in Tokyo’s upmarket Ginza shopping district announced this week its plans to bring in uniforms by luxury designer Giorgio Armani.

Each three-piece uniform costs 80,000 yen (€597) and consists of a pair of shorts or a skirt along with a shirt and blazer.

But in a country with staggering tuition fees, young parents are worried that they will not be able to afford these costs.

The new uniform choice has also been met by heat from the Japanese parliament who believe it is an outrageous ask especially without the consent of parents who have children attending the school.

In Japan, each school has the right to make their own call on rules and uniforms however the parliament notes that this is a big ask and could cause friction amongst children in school and pressure on parents to supply these essentials.
