Kensington Palace has announced that Prince William has a new role.

Becoming the "Patron of the London Air Ambulance Charity's 30th Anniversary Campaign", the palace released this statement: "As Patron of the 30th Anniversary Campaign, the duke will champion those working on the frontline, and highlight the importance of the London Air Ambulance’s vital work."

In his new role, William will visit the organisation at The Royal London Hospital on Wednesday morning meeting with staff and hospital patients for a tea party. And it's no doubt that this campaign or line of work is close to William's heart, as he operated as an East Anglian Air Ambulance pilot from 2015 to 201. During his time he acted as a first responder and so, raising funds for life-saving treatments and new facilities from this campaign is certainly something William is all for.

The Duke of Cambridge finished his last ever shift in June, 2017.

Speaking about his time as an air ambulance pilot during September's launch of Mental Health At Work; William revealed how tough the job was and how he struggled with his mental health during that time.

Prince William gave a talk at the launch in September.

"You're always dealing with despair and sadness and injury. The attrition builds up and you never really have the opportunity to offload anything if you're not careful," William said during his speech.

And although the royal is out on duty today during his wife, Kate Middleton's 37th birthday, it is expected that they will spend the evening together alongside their children.
