Don’t panic but a third Princess Diaries film is on the way

Yes, you read that right, the iconic movie that is The Princess Diaries is getting a third film. According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, a third installment of the hit Disney franchise is officially in the works. While it is yet to be confirmed if Anne Hathaway will be returning as Mia Thermopolis for the third film, it is happening in general. Anne starred alongside Julie Andrews in the first two films of the franchise, which has been a favourite among many of those who grew up watching it. Speaking previously about her role in the films, Anne told Entertainment Tonight: “I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it. “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.” While Anne seems more than interested in starring in a third film, Julie, unfortunately, broke fans' hearts when it came to reprising her role earlier this year when she revealed that she was not so keen on the idea. She told The Hollywood Reporter: “I think it would be too late to do it now. There was talk of a sequel many, many years ago. But I don’t think it ever came to pass.” “[For] especially me, it’s too far down the line now to go back to it. It’s a lovely thought, but I don’t think it would probably be possible." It is believed that the upcoming third film will follow on from The Princess Diaries and the sequel Royal Engagement and won't be a reboot.
