Reality Star In Trouble Over Sharing “Dangerous” Recipe For Homemade Formula

Kristin Cavallari (of Laguna Beach and The Hills fame, to those of you not in the know) is one busy lady. 

Not only is she currently a mama of three young children, she is also keeping busy being a shoe-designer, style commentator and has a brand new lifestyle book out, Balancing in Heels.

In her book, Cavallari tells readers how she, ahem, balances it all, and goes into great detail about her family's diet and healthy living.

As part of this, she details how she, once her babies have stopped breastfeeding, feeds them a homemade goat's milk formula that she makes herself.

Speaking to People magazine, the former reality star reveals how she "… prefers to know every ingredient that goes into the foods I feed my family—escpecially when it come to baby formula." She explains: "I would rather feed my baby these real, organic ingredients than a heavily processed store-bought formula that contains 'glucose syrup solids." The recipe she uses is listed in her book, and as part of their "Great Ideas" feature on the magazine's website, People re-posted this for their millions of readers to see - but were forced to take it down soon after, as complaints started rolling in. Referencing the article and recipe, which have since been removed, one doctor wrote in comments, "I am a neurologist practicing in New York and am writing to tell you that I will be canceling all waiting room copies of People magazine after your publication of the following article." And more followed. Los Angeles pediatrician Dr. Rebecca Mandel was outraged over the magazine's unquestioned support of Cavallari's approach to baby nutrition, and stated: "These cocktail formulas do not have the fortification of the vitamins and minerals that the standard formulas have. People magazine has done its readers a dangerous service by publishing this article and promoting Ms. Cavallari's 'formula.'
