Why did Regé-Jean Page actually leave Bridgerton?

Kat O'Connor

Did you miss The Duke of Hastings in season 2?

There was one major character missing from season 2 of Bridgerton, but did René-Jean Page’s departure make a difference?

Many fans believe Simon’s absence was barely noticeable.

However, others felt the show simply wasn’t the same without the charming leading man.

But why did the actor leave the show?

Bridgerton was one of the biggest roles he has landed so why turn his back on it at the height of his fame?

Apparently, the 33-year-old wanted to focus on other projects.

But he turned down a hefty sum of money when he said no to season 2 of Bridgerton.

The show’s creators were hoping Simon would appear in a handful of episodes in season 2.

He may not have been the lead character in season 2, but he was still an important part of the show.

Netflix offered the English actor a shocking £50,000 per episode, but he still said no.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor was offered a guest role in three to five episodes in season 2.

However, what drew him to his original role was the one-season commitment.

Page is currently focusing on his film career.

He will star alongside Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in The Gray Man later this year.

He has also landed a role in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which is set for release in 2023.

We may not see the Duke of Hastings on our screens again, but this certainly isn’t the last we’ll see of Regé-Jean Page.
