“I’m bloody delighted”

RTÉ’s Richie Sadlier and his wife Fiona are expecting their first child together.

Their joyous news comes after a long and heartbreaking fertility journey. The couple were previously told that they couldn’t conceive, but are now preparing to welcome their first child together.

The former footballer announced the news by posting a photo of him and Fiona smiling. In the photo, mum-to-be Fiona is holding up her sonogram in their car.

Richie and Fiona have faced many fertility struggles throughout the past few years.

The dad-to-be said it hasn’t been an easy journey for them. Doctors even told the couple that they couldn’t conceive naturally, but they finally have.

The couple faced a lot of heartaches before Fiona got pregnant.

“Four years after being told we couldn’t conceive naturally, and umpteen fertility consultations, scans, injections, embryo transfers, tears, hugs, and negative pregnancy tests later … I’m bloody delighted to share the news that my amazing wife Fiona is now 15 weeks pregnant …. naturally!”

“I know everyone finds their own way through challenges like this, but we chose to speak openly to friends and family about what we were going through from day one, so we got their support when we needed it and the space when we asked for it.

“So grateful for all for the encouragement, support, solidarity, and love we received along the way.”

Richie also sent a caring message to anyone who is experiencing fertility problems as they did.

“Big hugs to anyone out there currently travelling the same path.”

Richie and Fiona have been married since 2019. Back in June 2019, the couple tied the knot in a beautiful June ceremony at Cliff House Hotel in Waterford.

Huge congratulations to Richie and Fiona.
