RTÉ’s When Michael Met Davy is an absolute must-watch and it’s on TV very soon

Paul Moore

“He’s a lovely young man and whatever problems you encounter he’ll show you that there’s always hope.”

While every single Wexford supporter is still trying to come to terms with their heartbreaking semi-final defeat against Tipperary, this season has been an extremely positive one for Davy Fitzgerald’s men.

Passion, intensity, and honesty have always been traits associated with Davy Fitzgerald and if the Clare man was ever in need of more motivation, he certainly got it after meeting Michael O’Brien on last year’s Late Late Toy Show.

We reckon there isn’t a single person in the country that hasn’t seen that terrific moment but in case you’ve been living on the moon, here it is:

Absolutely terrific.

Well, after impressing an audience of 1.5m viewers, the manager of the Wexford senior hurling team invited Michael to give a motivational pre-match talk to the team ahead of one of their big league games against Tipperary earlier this year.

The youngster’s journey to that inspirational moment is captured in the heartwarming new documentary When Michael Met Davy.

Speaking with RTÉ, Fitzgerald said that Michael’s words and presence in the Wexford dressing room really made a lasting impression on the players.

“Michael is a really smart, intelligent young man,” said Fitzgerald.

“He made a big difference – the few words he said beforehand loosened the mood and got them thinking. He’s a lovely young man and whatever problems you encounter he’ll show you that there’s always hope and always something out there.

“Bright future ahead for Michael.”

While Wexford supporters are undoubtedly hurting at the minute, here’s hoping that this documentary will lift their spirits, and the spirits of everyone that’s watching.

Take a look at what’s in store when the documentary airs on Monday 5 August.
