Saoirse Ruane was diagnosed with cancer in 2019

Saoirse Ruane is one of the most courageous little girls out there. Her mum has been sharing parts of Saoirse’s battle with cancer online and recently reflected on the last four years.

Her mum told her followers that it’s been four years since Saoirse was first diagnosed with cancer.

She said the moment they found out “completely and utterly turned our lives upside down”.

Speaking about the heartbreaking time in their lives, Saoirse’s mum said her daughter was suffering from discomfort in her ankle and was admitted to A&E.

“I remember that day so vividly, Farrah Rose had tonsillitis and I brought both girls to our local GP to be checked out. Following our doctor’s instructions, I phoned Ollie to come home from work and bring Saoírse to the hospital for an X-ray.

Her mum said cancer never crossed their minds when Saoirse said she had pain in her ankle.

“Cancer NEVER crossed our mind and when she returned home that night on crutches and a temporary cast, Cancer still NEVER crossed our minds.

Her mum said they sat down to watch the Toy Show together, but things changed so much later that month.

Her mum said they were “thankful it wasn’t anything more serious” but everything changed within 24 hours.

The team at UHG asked Saoirse to come in for some more tests, and it was later confirmed that she had cancer.

“That’s as far as I am able to reflect on today. The next 4 years would see Saoírse’s life completely change and see us brokenhearted to witness all she’s been through.

“It’s not how we envisaged our life, it’s not how we wrote our script. This is childhood cancer. This is the reality of our life and the lives of many other families,” her mum wrote.

“We see you, we are all together on this journey. We are so proud!” she added.

We’re keeping Saoirse and her incredible family in our thoughts during such a heartbreaking time.
