School closures due to snow and ice warnings.

More schools are expected to close today as the cold snap continues.

Schools in multiple counties have closed due to snow and ice warnings.

Schools in Cork and Donegal were closed yesterday due to severe snowfall and dangerous road conditions.

Snow showers are expected in parts of the country today. Icy conditions have also been forecast.

Severe snowfall and icy conditions on roads have forced many schools to close.

Schools in Status Yellow had the opportunity to close today because of the poor weather conditions. Many school buses were not running because road conditions were too treacherous.

Met Éireann confirmed that frost and ice will continue to affect the country today.

Sunny spells, scattered showers, and isolated hail are forecasted for later today.

There is also a risk of possible thunder in some areas.

Met Éireann confirmed;

“Tonight will be very cold with frost and icy stretches developing in many areas, leading to hazardous conditions.

“There will be clear spells and scattered wintry showers in Ulster and north Leinster.

However, it will become cloudy elsewhere, with outbreaks of rain and sleet developing overnight in Connacht and Munster.

“Lowest temperatures of -4 to -1 degrees.”

Ulster and the north midlands will also experience colder temperatures, as well as patches of freezing fog.
