Temperatures fell as low as -7.

Multiple schools in Donegal have closed because of heavy snowfall.

Low temperatures and snowfall have caused disruption in Donegal leading to school closures.

Many schools decided to close because of the hazardous conditions on the roads.

According to The Irish Sun, schools in Letterkenny and Milford were mostly affected by the snow.

The schools explained that road conditions are not safe. They decided it would be best to close today.

The list of closures includes;

Crana College, Loreto Letterkenny, Errigal College Letterkenny, Mulroy College Milford, Educate Together Letterkenny, Scoil Colmcille NS, St Bernadette’s Special School Letterkenny, Coláiste Ailigh Letterkenny, Scoil Naomh Brid Muff, Scoil Naomh Fionán and Whitecastle Quigley’s Point.

The schools stressed that they will not open at all today, but have yet to confirm whether the closures will continue into the week.

Met Éireann has issued a snow and ice warning for Leitrim, Sligo, and Donegal this morning.

The warning remains in place until 9 am tomorrow, January 18th.

“Snow showers leading to some accumulations.”

A nationwide Status Yellow snow and ice warning has also been issued.

Met Éireann stated;

“Icy stretches leading to hazardous travelling conditions, especially on untreated roads and paths.”

“Wintry showers in the northwest and southwest. Accumulations possible, especially in mountainous areas, leading to disruption.”

Temperatures will remain low for the rest of the week.
