An Irish father has said he was “horrified” when a letter to Santa posted by his children before Christmas was returned due to “insufficient postage”.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, disappointed dad Alan Campbell said his family posted their wish lists to Mr. Claus on December 16th as part of a festive family tradition.
“We all dress up in our Santa jumpers and whatever paraphernalia we have, go over to the postbox and get somebody to take our photograph.” he told the newspaper.
Despite being clearly addressed to the man himself at Santa’s Grotto, Lapland, North Pole, the letter, written by Mr. Campbell’s three-year-old daughter, arrived back at the family home last week.
“My eight-year-old daughter was wondering why her sister’s letter didn’t get to Santa.” he added. “We explained the elves are very busy and they get things mixed up.”
An Post has since apologised to the family and has promised to launch an investigation into the incident. A spokesman said staff were “very upset” to learn of the case and agreed it “should not have happened.”
