Teenaged Elisha Gault has been missing for a week now – and on Sunday evening a body was discovered close to where she was last seen.

The 14-year-old went missing on Saturday 17 March: at around 10pm Elisha left her home on New Street in Carrick-On-Suir and was spotted on Dillon Bridge in the town shortly afterwards.

At 6pm on Sunday, searchers found a body in the River Suir – about 8km from her home.

“It is understood that the search and rescue Coast Guard helicopter was on its way back to Waterford airport from a routine operation but crew members saw a body floating in the water near Fiddown bridge some time after 6pm on Sunday evening,” reports IrishTimes.com.

The remains have been brought by helicopter to University Hospital Waterford and Elisha’s family have been informed of the discovery.

On Saturday, the girl’s parents made another plea for their daughter to come home.

“Elisha, your daddy, myself and your three sisters love and miss you very much,” her mum said on Facebook.

“We always have your back no matter what – you are so beautiful, with brains to burns and hilariously funny. We miss your craic. We just want you home for a movie night – get in touch egg.”

She also thanked everyone who has helped out in looking for Elisha. “We want to sincerely thank everyone that has been involved in the search for our daughter.

“We continue to thank everybody involved in searching, helping and supporting, you will be eternally in our hearts.”
