See the powerful anti-drugs video that’s hitting a serious nerve

It’s a moving video made for teens by teens – and the message is simple – even one pill can kill.

The Newtownabbey Arts and Cultural Network Drama (NACN) made the short film about two teenage girls who take a pill on an evening together which ends in tragedy.

Made in Rathcoole Housing Estate on the edge of North Belfast, the young people wanted to highlight the issues that many communities all over the world.

The girls are shown having hallucinations before one of them is rushed to hospital.  The final scenes show her mum being told by real PSNI officers that her daughter has passed away. It ends with the girl lying in the hospital mortuary.

The video has already been shared over a quarter of a million times and young people are hailing it as an honest and frightening depiction of how easy it is to get your hands on such drugs.

Among the supportive messages for the video were from Lesley and William Burns who’s son Jamie died after a night out – it’s believed he took ecstasy.

“Cried while watching this as it’s so true – that’s all it takes, one pill to take away a bright future to leave your family devastated. Jamie was 23, never took drugs, but made the wrong decision on November 19, 2016 and died in the early hours of Sunday 20th. One ecstasy to ruin not only his life but destroyed our lives as well, when will people stop dicing with death?”

The video’s powerful message has turned it into a global sensation. It shows how just one pill can kill as well as the devastation left behind.
