A great initiative.

A sensory room for children and adults with special needs has opened in a shoe shop in Sligo.

ShoeShop.ie this week announced that their sensory ‘chill out’ room is now completed and will be available to children or adults who would benefit from a more calming shoe fitting experience away from the busy-ness of the main shop.

The room includes adjustable lights, colours, different textures, a variety of sounds, an aquatic bubble tube and sensory play objects.

The first of its kind in Ireland, the room provides a safe environment that allows the individual using it to explore and interact without risk.

Tailored to appeal to those with all different aspects of special needs, the sensory room experience also provides a professional shoe fitting service away from the main shop.

The sensory room will have its official opening on Tuesday, May 22 at 3.30pm.

ShoeShop.ie is encouraging anyone who wants to have a look around the room to pop down to Cordners Sligo on that day.

Alternatively, bookings for the room can also be made through the shop’s website or by calling 071-9143267.

Here, different arrangements can be made depending on each customer’s requirements and preferences.

Users can also choose the time of day that would suit them best to visit.
