Doctors told the parents that they were expecting a baby girl.
Shayne Ward and Sophie Ausitn have revealed the name of their baby boy.
The couple welcomed their son last month, much to their surprise. During their scans, the parents were told that Sophie was pregnant with a baby girl, but she ended up giving birth to a son.
Doctors stunned the parents when they revealed they had welcomed a baby boy rather than the girl they believed they were expecting.
Both Sophie and Shayne were stunned when their son was born, but said they were happy once he was healthy.
The parents revealed that they’ve decided to call their little boy Reign Thomas Austin.
“The doctors came over and said: ‘We’ve got some news.’ I was thinking the worst, that something awful had happened, but they said: ‘You’ve got a baby boy!’ So I felt more relief than anything else.”
Speaking to Hello, the pair said having a healthy baby is what matters most.
Sophie explained that they had picked out multiple girls names for their newborn so they had to think quickly about different options.
Luckily, there was one name that really stood out to the mum-of-two.
“There was one name I had heard that I had liked, which was Reign, and Shayne loves anything medieval.”
The former X Factor winner explained the meaning behind his son’s name.
“As soon as she suggested it, I thought it was nice. My middle name is Thomas and Austin is after Sophie’s father.
“I thought that Reign Thomas Austin Ward sounded really good and it just fitted him.”
Shayne and Sophie are also parents to 5-year-old daughter Willow.
