Simon Cowell spends £10,000 on his son’s dinosaur-themed 3rd birthday party

According to sources, the music producer and X Factor presenter spent a whopping £10,000 on his son Eric’s 3rd birthday party last weekend, which was held at The Mandarin Oriental in London (natch).

I don’t know about you, but it seems like quite a lot for a toddler’s birthday bash, no? Although, having had nine parties in total for my own kids, to date, I feel like I have spent an equally extortionate amount on themed parties (for a non A-lister!). Maybe not quite this amount, but I’m pretty sure we could easily rack up a bill like this of an afternoon surrounded by all our friends and family at a five-star hotel, given half the chance.

According to The Sun, Eric’s birthday parties are becoming quite the occasion for the Cowell family and pals, with Eric’s 2nd birthday bash being held at an equally as swanky location last year in London, attended by David Walliams, Amanda Holden, and Alesha Dixon.

This year’s event was star-studded too, with well-known names like Television presenter, Katie Piper, Saturday’s star, Rochelle and husband, Marvin attending with their little ones all keen to get in on some dinosaur action.

But would you expect anything less for a showman like Simon Cowell? His MO is all about being in the limelight, surrounded by celebrities, and all about appearance, pomp, and ceremony, so if he wants to spend that much on a bash, then he can do whatever he likes with his own money.

It only becomes a problem if he continues in this vain once his son starts to realise exactly how over-the-top it is to have your birthday at The Mandarin Oriental. For now, though, it sounds like Daddy is indulging in his own whims and dinosaur obsession!

What do you think? It is ridiculous, or are you in any way surprised?
