Best known as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Tom Petty has passed away at the age of 66. The news was confirmed by CBS. The musician suffered a full cardiac arrest and was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home on Sunday night before being taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and put on life support. His manager, Tony Dimitriades, released a statement on Twitter this morning following his death. It read:

"On behalf of the Tom Petty family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend, Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Centre but could not be revived.”

Famous songs such as Free Falling, I Won't Back Down and American Girl saw Petty's band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. His band have been on the road since 1976 and continued to perform. Their last show was last Monday where they played three sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl to conclude their 40th-anniversary tour.
