“What has taken months for the Government has been achieved in 24 hours”
This is just one of the hundreds of responses to Glen Hansard’s appearance on the Late Late Show last night.
The singer was speaking to presenter, Ryan Tubridy, about the Home Sweet Home movement. It’s a group which has taken over the NAMA-owned Apollo House in Dublin and are occupying the building illegally.
After performing on the RTE show last night, Glen Hansard explained that he felt the time was right for action:
We are involved in an act of civil disobedience. I call upon the very spirit of the Irish people to look at this, it is an illegal act. We have taken a building that essentially belongs to the people of Ireland and that has been lying empty”
The movement has the support of celebrities such as musician Hozier, Saoirse Ronan, director Jim Sheridan and the response from people across social media has been amazingly positive:
Taking action for the homeless, instead of waiting for the gov or Nama. Brilliant & courageous. #GlenHansard #HomeSweetHome #LateLate
