Single Dad Gets His Dying Wish: Foster Parents For His Beloved Son

Katie Mythen-Lynch

A single dad battling an aggressive type of cancer spent his final months making sure his little boy would be well cared for after his death.

Nick Rose (40) from Paignton in Devon, UK, lost his battle with the disease on Tuesday. The sole parent to Logan (4) had initially discovered a lump in his collar nine months ago. Despite having chemotherapy, the cancer spread to his lungs and bones.

Ignoring his severe pain he was in, Nick focused on arranging foster care for his son, whose mother left when he was a baby.

Donations have flooded in to a JustGiving fund started by Amy Crompton, whose brother Aaron was close to Nick and helped with his care.

“Nick found out he had cancer about nine months ago and tried to stay strong for his son for as long as possible, he very bravely arranged for his little boy to go to a foster family after he passed.” Amy posted on the site.

“Such a cruel world :( I am trying to raise as much as I can to give him the best send off possible. Nick was an amazing person and Dad to 4yr old Logan. many people knew him and have only had good words to say about. He will be missed by many.”

Initially opened to help cover Nick’s funeral costs, the money raised (more than £9,000) has exceeded expectations and anything left over will be used to ensure Logan has everything he needs to start school with his new foster family in Torquay.
