New mum Síomha Ní Ruairc has opened up about deciding against sharing her daughter's name publicly.
The TV presenter welcomed a baby girl with her husband, Cathal, six weeks ago, but has chosen to keep their daughter's name private.
In an interview with Oliver Callan on RTÉ Radio 1, Síomha explained: “I’ve struggled with this because I obviously think she is the most beautiful thing to ever grace this planet, and I’m taking a million photos of her a day, and all I want to do is show the whole world.
“But unfortunately, I just think in 2026, this is another way that we have to think about protecting our children. Number one, I want to give her the kind of autonomy of when she would like to maybe share her information with the world. That’s her choice, not mine," the new mum explained.
Síomha explained that raising a child in this modern world comes with many worries, especially when it comes to technology.
“But then also we have to think about kind of protecting our children. Like we saw Grok and the AI over on Twitter, and that debacle. You just don’t know where these images could go. And so I am not sharing any of her personal details.”
The former Ireland AM presenter announced the birth of her daughter on Instagram in February.
Alongside a sweet photo of the new parents and their baby girl, Síomha said:
"Ag dul i dtaithí ar ár saol nua lenár gcailín álainn. Getting used to life with our gorgeous girl. Our lives and hearts have never been fuller."
We love how open and honest Síomha Ní Ruairc is about the dangers of sharing your children's personal details online. There's no doubt the new mum's honesty will encourage many others to do the same.
