Six-year-old boy in intensive care after farm accident in Laois

A boy is in a serious condition in hospital after an accident on a farm in County Laois yesterday.

The incident happened in Rathdowney yesterday afternoon at around 4.30pm.

The six-year-old was injured when he was rolled over by a jeep his father was driving on the farm, according to the Leinster Express.

He was taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital.

He is in the hospital’s intensive care unit but is said to be in a stable condition.

Gardaí from Abbyleix are investigating the incident and the Health and Safety Authority has been notified.

Farming continues to be one of the most dangerous occupations in Ireland – around 2,000 people are injured on Irish farms each year, reports the HSA.

Over the past ten years, 24 children have died as a result of farm-related incidents.
