A six-year-old saved his twin toddler cousins from drowning in their backyard pool.

Branson Lee was pulling his own younger brother away from the pool’s steps when he noticed that his two 21-month-old cousins were lying face-down in the water.

Steven Kelley, the father of the twins, told Associated Press that Branson pulled the toddlers out the pool and started to call for help.

The family is from a northeast town in Louisiana.

According to Kelley, the twins were “as blue as a pair of jeans.”

Even as a first responder, he wasn’t able to help.

“Anybody can bring a pulse back. I’m a first responder at work, and I’m blessed to have that training (…) But I cannot do anything to bring them back to themselves.”

Once they were pulled from the pool by Branson, one of the twins, Kaden, started to cough up water. After about 30 seconds, the other toddler, Isaac, did the same.

The twins were airlifted to a hospital in Shreveport.

Kelley thanks God for the survival of his twins.

“Praise to God we’re not dealing with two boys who are intubated with no brain functions,” he said.
