Smyths is recalling a popular doll due to chemical levels in the plastic

Here's what to do if you have one.

Smyths Toys has issued a voluntary recall on a popular doll over concerns about a chemical in some of them.

The brand is recalling certain lines of the IMC Cry Babies Nala doll.

It come amidst worries of the levels of phthalates in some of the dolls sold in Ireland and the UK.

Phthalates are chemicals typically added to plastic to make it more flexible and soft.

Though relatively common, high levels of phthalates have been linked with a number of health issues in recent years.

These include asthma, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, breast cancer, low IQ, neuro-developmental issues, behavioral issues, , altered reproductive development and male fertility issues, according to the Guardian.

This recall applies only to some of the dolls sold in the Republic of Ireland, some 1260. affects the below serial numbers only.

The following serial numbers are affected: 18/10657/-36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 43, 44, 45, 46

The serial number can be found in the doll’s battery compartment.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has the following advice for anyone concerned about their doll:

“First, you should identify the serial number of your product.

“If your product has one of the serial numbers detailed above, you should stop using the product immediately. Return the product and packaging to a Smyths Toys store.

“The retailer will be aware of the recall and a refund will be offered.
