Smyths issued the urgent recall this week
Smyths Toys has issued an urgent recall for one of its bestselling playsets amid choking fears.
The toy store is urging parents to return the Fantasma Magic Set Deluxe Top Hat 150+ Magic Tricks kit.
The popular toy has been on sale in the store since October 2024 but is now being recalled due to safety concerns.
It is understood that around 520 units of the toy were sold in Ireland in the last five months.
Parents have been advised to stop letting their children play with the magic kit immediately.
The CCPC explained that the kit includes a plush rabbit that can break into small pieces. The tiny pieces can pose a significant choking hazard, especially to young children.
The CCPC urged parents to keep the toy out of children’s reach following the recall.

“Smyths Toys HQ UC is carrying out a recall of Fantasma Magic Set Deluxe Top Hat 150+ Magic Tricks. The risk reported to the CCPC is choking. The plush rabbit can create small parts and become a choking hazard for young children.”
The affected products have the item number 198567 and barcode 0816344015286.
The affected batch codes are 2401-6009ML-BK, 2406-6009ML-BK, 2407-6009ML-BK, and 2408-6009ML-BK.
Smyths confirmed that Fantasma Magic Sets sold after February 17th, 2025, are not affected by this recall.
Smyths stated that you will be given a full refund when you return the toy to your nearest Smyths store.
A spokesperson for the store stated:
“Smyths Toys are voluntarily recalling four batches of Fantasma Magic Set Deluxe due to possible issues with small parts (the eyes of the plush rabbit) detaching too easily. This may present a choking hazard for younger children.”
