South Dublin parents warned about man making ‘suspicious approaches’ to children

Sharyn Hayden

In the past week alone, we have seen one repeat offender sentenced to thirteen years in prison for the attempted abduction of a young girl and the return to Ireland of convicted child sex offender Danny Ward. Unfortunately, the bad news doesn’t stop there.

Now parents in south Dublin have more to worry about as The Gardaí has been made aware of a man reported to be hanging around schools in the Killiney and Shankhill areas over the past six weeks.

The man in question is reported to be in his early thirties, hooded and of slight build and while there has been no arrest made, the Gardaí are said to be taking the matter very seriously.

“There have been a number of reports of suspicious approaches to children and the description of the man in question has been consistent.

Late last month, the man allegedly followed a young girl home from Scoil Mhuire in Shankill.

Worried schools have sent out letters and text alerts to parents advising them to be extra vigilant and to teach their children about safety, especially as the late afternoons are getting dark quickly.

Sources say the Gardaí are urging locals to keep a watch for any suspicious behaviour. We truly hope they will make an arrest on this soon.
