Status Yellow snow warning issued for five counties

Rudi Kinsella

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

… in five counties at least.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow and ice warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

The warning is valid from 10am on Thursday morning until 7am on Friday morning.

Met Éireann said to expect wintry showers throughout the day on Thursday and overnight with falls of hail, sleet and snow all possible.

It also warned of icy stretches and accumulations of snow in some areas, which could prove dangerous.

Thursday night will be extremely cold, with lowest temperatures of 0 to minus 2 degrees expected, in light to moderate northwest breezes.

Friday will see widespread frost to begin with some icy stretches on untreated surfaces.

It will be a cold and increasingly windy day with sunny spells and further scattered wintry showers, these mainly in Atlantic coastal counties at first but affecting many areas by evening.

By the looks of it your hot water bottle and blanket will be working overtime this December. But would you have it any other way?
