A status yellow weather warning has been issued for two counties this afternoon.
Met Éireann has announced that there is a yellow wind warning for Cork and Kerry that will last until today at 5pm.
The weather forecaster said: “West to Northwest winds will reach mean speed between 50 and 65km/h with gusts up to 90km/h. Winds strongest along coasts.”
It comes as temperatures are set to plummet and drop below zero tonight.
A spokesperson for the national forecaster said:
“Tonight will be mostly dry with just isolated showers”
“Temperatures will fall below freezing for all areas, down to between minus 1 and minus 2 degrees. Winds will be fresh to strong northwest to west and later becoming northerly.”
As for tomorrow:
“The freshening southerly winds will become strong southeasterly on Thursday night ahead of rain developing in the west.”
“Temperatures will be below freezing in places and the rain will be preceded for a time by a fall of snow as it spreads eastwards across the country.”
