10-year-old boy stable after being struck by lightning

He was rushed to hospital in Australia.

A 10-year-old boy is in a stable condition in hospital after he was struck by lightning in Australia.

The incident happened at Warilla Beach in Shellharbour, New South Wales.

The young boy was swimming in the sea when he was struck by lightning. The young boy suffered a cardiac arrest following the lightning strike.

Rescuers pulled him from the sea and treated him on the scene.

The boy was then rushed to Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

He is reportedly in a stable but critical condition following the incident.

The young boy also suffered burns to his chest.

His parents were taking photos at the time of the lightning strike.

An eye-witness told 7 News in Australia that he is lucky to be alive.

They overheard the parents calling for help after the incident took place.

They shared;

“I turned around, I saw the kid and the parents, they were crying and holding (the child),” they said.

“They came to the shore (and there was someone) saying ‘help, help, help’.”

A severe thunderstorm alert had been issued before the incident. Weather officials urge the public to be careful. Thunderstorms, hail, torrential rainfall, and powerful winds were all forecast.
