Study Reveals Truth About ‘Dumb Blondes’ Stereotype

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Here’s a story that’s almost guaranteed to take all our IQs down a notch just by paying it any attention, but here we go…

An Ohio State University study claims to have proven that blonde women are more intelligent than brunettes or red-heads.

Yep, in a slap in the face for writers of ‘dumb blonde’ jokes everywhere, new data taken from a Pentagon-approved Armed Forces Qualification Test taken by almost 11,000 participants in the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 shows that the fairest of them all are also the smartest.

The data shows blonde-haired women had an average IQ of 103.2, compared to 102.7 for brunettes. The average IQ for red heads was 101.2, dipping to 100.5 for those with black hair.

While it might sound like a silly study at first, lead author and scientist Jay Zagorsky says there is method to their madness:

“Research shows that stereotypes often have an impact on hiring, promotions and other social experiences,” Zagorsky said.

“This study provides compelling evidence that there shouldn’t be any discrimination against blondes based on their intelligence.”

So there you have it, another stereotype crushed. Let that be the end of it.
