This is the newest dating trend that is corrupting Irish relationships

We all live in a yellow submarine...

Darragh Berry

We’ve all been submarined and what’s worse still, we can plead guilty to submarining someone from time to time.

We’ve all heard about ‘stashing’ which is when you let someone into your life to meet your friends and family but sadly, the feeling is not reciprocal.

Well, on top of stashing, you now have to worry about submarining in your dating life as it is the new trend that we are all sadly familiar with.

How does submarining work or how does one exactly submarine someone else?

You think all is going well with you and your significant other and then all of a sudden, without any warning, they just disappear off the face of the earth.

No more calls, no more texts, not even as much as a poke on Facebook (does that still exist?), your potential boyfriend or girlfriend has become a distant memory and you are now left to pick up the pieces of a failed relationship.

Fast forward a couple of months and that person who was once your night-time phone buddy reappears out of absolutely nowhere and wants to get intimate again.

They don’t explain why they went away for so long, hell, they don’t even pretend that anything happened between the two of you and just pick up where things left off.

According to Metro, you will receive no apology or excuse, just an invitation to come over for dinner, or the suggestion that you see a film together.

You will be left absolutely baffled as to how you got back into this situation and if you can at all, you should, by all means, leave the other person hanging for a while until you get a grasp of the situation.

Sadly, we’ve all been submarined and what’s worse still, we can plead guilty to submarining someone from time to time.
