The NYPD and US Marshals have arrested a man on suspicion of fatally shooting a heavily pregnant woman in Harlem.

Shanice Young, 31, was shot dead on her way home from her own baby shower last weekend in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police say a fight broke out between her partner and her ex near West 128th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard whilst the she was unloading baby gifts from her car.

Authorities reportedly believe her ex-partner pulled out a gun during the fight, shooting the mother-to-be in the head three times and killing her outside her apartment building.

She was nine months pregnant, and her unborn baby also tragically died in the shooting.

The suspected gunman, Justin Soriano, surrendered to police when they knocked on an apartment door in the Bronx and is now in custody.

Neighbours described Young as a beautiful and loving woman as a memorial grew outside her apartment building.

“End gun violence” leaflets sat amongst flowers and candles set for the mum and her unborn child.

An activist against domestic violence, Stephanie McGraw, said the shooting was “a clear case of domestic violence.”

“This is a national health crisis, and it’s not taken seriously enough,” she told News 4.
