Teenage girl rushed to hospital with “life-changing injuries” after Ballyfermot attack

A 17-year-old girl has suffered life-changing injuries after an attack in Ballyfermot.

It is believed she was targeted by a gang of youths outside the Civic Theatre in Ballyfermot.

The attack took place shortly before 10 pm on Thursday, December 30th.

The girl was with an 18-year-old boy at the time of the attack, but he was not taken to hospital.

According to locals, the pair were minding their own business before the attack.

The young girl is currently being treated in St. Jame’s Hospital. She will require surgery for her injuries, but they are not life-threatening, Gardaí confirmed.

The girl’s family is said to be “devastated” after the “vicious attack”.

They said the 17-year-old girl was innocent.

It is understood the young girl and her friend were randomly targeted.

Speaking to Dublin Live, Gardaí confirmed an investigation was underway.

“Gardai are investigating an incident of assault that occurred on Thursday, 30th December 2021 at approximately 9.45 pm in the Drumfinn area of Ballyfermot.”

“It is understood a man (18) and a woman (17) were assaulted by a number of youths.”

“The woman was taken to Saint James Hospital for treatment of her injuries.”

The girl’s injuries are non-life-threatening, but they are life-changing.

No arrests have been made so far.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack has been urged to come forward.
