Teenage boy attacked with hammer in random altercation in Co. Cork

“It was just a complete random attack”

A teenage boy has been brutally attacked with a hammer on the Curraheen Road in Bishopstown.

The incident took place shortly before midnight on Saturday, October 3rd.

The 18-year-old was walking home with his cousin when three men jumped out of a car and started to attack them.

He said the attack was completely random.

The men reportedly attacked the young man’s cousin first.

When the teenager tried to help him they turned on him.

Emergency services did all they could at the scene, but the boys were rushed to the hospital.

Paramedics feared he had a bleed on the brain.

Luckily, the young men are now recovering in hospital, but the 18-year-old’s head and face have been severely beaten. It is believed he will need thousand of euros worth of dental work.

Speaking about the horrifying attack, a family member told CorkBeo, “It was just a complete random attack.”

“They started on my cousin first and my brother ran over to help him when all hell broke out.”

Gardaí have launched an investigation.

They told CorkBeo: “Gardaí are investigating an incident of assault that occurred at a business premises in Bishopstown last night, shortly before midnight. It is understood that a number of persons were involved in the altercation.”

They added, “One male was seriously injured during the incident. He was treated at the scene by Ambulance services and taken to Cork University Hospital.”
