Teenager delivers emotional speech at school prize giving after being told he has just weeks to live

Life can be cruel.

Imagine being 18 years old and one week away from graduating from high school only to be told that you will die if you don’t get immediate treatment for a rare form of cancer.

For Jack Bailey from New Zealand, this is exactly what happened.

He was told by doctors that he only had a matter of weeks to live before he was due to deliver a speech at his school’s prize giving ceremony.

Despite the odds and the words of doctors, Jack delivered that speech in front of his Christchurch Boys’ High School classmates and teachers as well as their loved ones.

“I wrote a speech and then, a week before I was due to deliver that speech tonight, they said ‘You’ve got cancer,’” he starts.

“And then they told me that I wouldn’t be here to deliver that speech. But luckily, that speech isn’t about what’s to come, it’s about what an incredible year it’s been.”

What comes next is one of the most emotional and powerful speeches we’ve ever heard. (We may have shed a tear.)
