Temperatures to drop again following new ice and snow warning

Ellen Fitzpatrick

It’s dropping again.

Temperatures are set to drop yet again as a new Status Yellow Snow and Ice warning has been issued for eight counties and Connacht.

Met Éireann has said that wintery conditions are set to come in overnight and will bring icy conditions to various areas.

Causing hazardous road conditions and slippery paths, the warning will come into effect at 8pm for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath and Connacht and will remain in place until midday tomorrow.

The national forecaster has also said that Monday night is set to be a cold and blustery night with clear spells and scattered wintry showers.

There is also predicted snow to fall, with some showers set to be heavy with hail and thunder in some places.

Temperatures are set to drop to around -2C in places.

The UK Met Office has also issued a Yellow snow and ice warning for counties Antrim, Derry, Down and Tyrone from 5pm this evening to 11am tomorrow.

Overnight snow showers are likely to lead to slippery and unsafe conditions on untreated roads, cycle paths and pavements.

It is unclear if the weather will interrupt education facilities as of yet.
