The Name of Sweden’s Newborn Prince Has Been Released…

We love a royal baby name around these parts so there was much anticipation this week as we awaited an announcement from Prince Carl Philip of Sweden and his model wife Princess Sofia, who gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday.  Now the big news has finally been revealed, with the royal couple announcing the arrival of Prince Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil, Duke of Söderland, fifth in line to the throne.

Prinsfamiljen har nu lämnat sjukhuset och är hemma på Drottningholms slott. The Prince Couple have now left the hospital and are home at Drottningholm Palace. #kungahuset #prinsparet

In line with Swedish tradition, the name was announced in public by Carl Philip's father King Carl XVI Gustaf at a cabinet meeting. Carl Philip, who is second in line to the throne after his older sister Victoria, told a press conference: "For my wife and me, this is a great day full of emotion,". The birth marks the second in the family this spring, Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel welcomed their second child, Prince Oscar, last month. Princess Sofia and the new royal have now left the hospital and are home at Drottningholm Palace.
