We absolutely adore it.

There was a powerful message behind Serena Williams’ outfit at the French Open this week.

The 37-year-old made her return to the tournament this week, winning her first round against Russia’s Vitalia Diatchenko

However, one of the biggest talking points after her win was what she was wearing – and how absolutely epic it was.

The zebra-striped outfit featured a crop top and skirt, and was designed by Off-White’s Virgil Abloh and Nike.

It also had a cape, which featured the French translation for the words mother, queen, champion and queen – although she didn’t wear the cape during the match.

She told the Tennis Channel after her first round win:

“Virgil Abloh designed it and so I was really excited because he’s the hottest designer right now and he’s amazing.

“It’s the second time we’ve worked together. And it has words in it in French. It talks about me being a mom and me being a queen, as all women are. A champion.

“It’s positive reinforcement for me, and I kind of love that.”

The 23-time Grand Slam champion also shred a glimpse at her outfit on her Instagram account on Sunday.

It’s not the first time that Williams has caused a buzz over her outfit at the French Open.

Last year, she wore a black catsuit – which was also designed by Nike – that made her feel like a “warrior princess”.

Explaining at the time how it made her feel like a “superhero,” she said:

“I feel like a warrior in it, like a warrior princess kind of, [a] queen from Wakanda.

“I’m always living in a fantasy world. I always wanted to be a superhero, and it’s kind of my way of being a superhero.
