Scoliosis is defined as a curvature of the spine of more than 10 degrees to the right or left and according to the HSE, it affects around 1 percent of children in Ireland.
Earlier this week news of families feeling pressured to go abroad for necessary surgeries was brought to light as long waiting lists with few available surgery dates in Ireland is still a significant problem.
In July, the HSE introduced their Waiting List Action Plan in the hopes of ensuring no patient waits more than 4 months for surgery by the end of 2017.
