A third fatality has been confirmed.

Ophelia has claimed the life of a third person, this time a man in Ravensdale, Co Louth.

Emergency services were called to an incident in the area after a tree fell on a car in the Dundalk area this afternoon.

It is reported that the man died as a result of the injuries sustained from the falling tree in the area at around 3pm.

That brings the number of fatalities to three after a man in Cahir was killed in a chainsaw accident and another woman in Waterford died when her car was pinned under a fallen tree.

Gardaí continue to urge drivers to remain indoors and not to travel unless it is absolutely necessary.
