This is the really gross mistake we’re all making with our washing machines

Yes, we know; there is nothing quite as satisfying than finishing yet another load of washing.

But before you load the dryer and pat yourself on the back for (yet another) job well done, there is one thing you need to do – that most of us forget.

Leave the door of the washing machine open.

Sounds simple enough? Yet is is incredibly important to do.

Why? Because if you shut the washing-machine door immediately after a cycle has ended, you will trap in moisture, which can create mildew and spread bacteria that— the next time you wash something on a low temperature cycle—ends up all over your clothes.

Gross.

However, by leaving the door open, you’re actually giving your washer a chance to air-dry, minimising the odds that bacteria and mildew will thrive and grow.

Result? Cleaner and fresher smelling clothes.
