Why? Because if you shut the washing-machine door immediately after a cycle has ended, you will trap in moisture, which can create mildew and spread bacteria that— the next time you wash something on a low temperature cycle—ends up all over your clothes.
Gross.
However, by leaving the door open, you’re actually giving your washer a chance to air-dry, minimising the odds that bacteria and mildew will thrive and grow.
