If someone was to ask me what I am thinking about at any given time, I think they would be in for a little surprise.
Or not; depending on who asked. If it was another mum, I am sure she would totally get how my mind can be in 4 million places at once. How I can at the same time be thinking about anything from how I must remember to buy nappies for creche, to that dentist appointment I have in the morning, or wondering if that dress I tried on in Zara on Saturday really was as fabulously I-can’t-live-without-it as I suspect it was.
When us mums say we multitask, we don’t mean just cooking dinner while checking spellings and doing the laundry. No, we also perform a vast amount of mental multitasking on a daily basis, juggling the running of the whole enterprise that is family life – often topped with also having a job outside the home – and all the mental involvement that entails.
And this mum mind-juggle is what this guy got an eyeful of recently, when he had asked his wife draw him a picture of what was on her mind.
Her drawing? Something we bet every mum under the sin can relate to:
The image, originally posted to Reddit, was captioned: “Asked my wife to draw me a picture of what is on her mind. This is her response.” Not surprisingly, the funny drawing quickly went viral, and have at present been viewed more than 2,5 million times.
Essentially, it is a blank page that has been filled with feelings and concerns, big and small, that many of us mums obsess over on a daily basis. For instance:
- WORK—co-workers, students, parents
- My kids are so awesome + evil at the same time
- I have student debt
- Girl Scouts
- The dirt under the fridge
- Laundry, dinner, dishes, upstairs
- So sleepy
- Did that person look at me funny? Am I looking at them funny? Judgy people suck. Am I judgy?
Is this what it would look like if YOU had to draw a picture of what is going on in YOUR mind right now, mamas? And what does this mean? Us mums need a break? A personal assistant? A crash-course in meditation? Or just a bloody medal for everything we handle every day? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
