Thousands of Mercedes cars have been recalled. It affects those who bought a diesel car in the last six years. The reason for the recall is to improve the performance of the emissions.

According to The Guardian, Daimler, who make the cars, has said that it won’t cost owners anything with the company investing over €200m to reduce the nitrogen oxide (NOx) output in the affected vehicles.

1 million vehicles in the Germany are being recalled, with 2 million more in the rest of Europe being recalled. It’s believed that this will include thousands of Irish car owners, from those who bought here in Ireland and anyone who brought in the car from the UK.

The chairman of the board of management of Daimler, Dieter Zetsche, said:

“The public debate about diesel engines is creating uncertainty – especially for our customers. We have therefore decided on additional measures to reassure drivers of diesel cars and to strengthen confidence in diesel technology.

We are convinced that diesel engines will continue to be a fixed element of the drive-system mix, not least due to their low CO2 emissions.”
