Katie Mythen-Lynch

Gardaí are still trying to identify three men killed in a horror car crash in Waterford on Sunday morning.

The men, one of whom is believed to be a teenager, were killed when their saloon car collided with a people carrier carrying a family on their way to the Winterval Christmas festival in Waterford city at approximately 10am on Military Road in Dungarvan.

According to reports, the smaller car immediately went up in flames, killing all occupants inside. The burnt-out vehicle has a Cork registration but forensic teams will have to identify the deceased using dental records.

The Irish Independent is reporting that six people, including four children aged between six and 14 years old, suffered injuries in the people carrier. All six were airlifted to hospital.

The road remains closed and diversions are in place.

Gardaí have asked any witnesses who travelled this stretch of road on Sunday to contact Dungarvan garda station on (058) 48600.
