Three-year-old boy dies in drowning incident at swimming pool

A young child has lost his life at a swimming pool in the UK today.

The three-year-old boy was at the pool at a leisure centre in Leeds in the north of England with his family.

He was found unconscious and retrieved from the pool by a staff member at around 9.30am this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene while staff administered CPR on the boy.

He was taken by ambulance with his mother to Leeds General Infirmary Hospital but was pronounced dead there shortly after.

“All of our team at the club are deeply shocked and saddened,” said the David Lloyd fitness club where the tragedy took place in a statement to Sky News.

“Our thoughts are very much with the boy’s family at this very sad time.”

Meanwhile, police have appealed for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

“This appears to be a tragic accident and our thoughts are with the boy’s family at this extremely difficult time.

“While there is nothing to suggest that the death was suspicious, we do have a duty to investigate the circumstances of what has happened.

“We understand that there were a number of people in the pool at the time who have left the area prior to police arriving at the scene.

“We would ask these people to come forward to give their accounts of what they have seen and heard.”
