The young boy tragically died on Tuesday.
Ollie Dempsey collapsed and later died after suffering from ‘flu-like’ symptoms leaving his parents, Barry and Jane, heartbroken.
The three-year-old boy from Monamolin in Wexford walked into his parents’ room on Tuesday shortly before collapsing and going into cardiac arrest. He was rushed to Wexford General Hospital by ambulance, was resuscitated numerous times before passing away a little while later, according to reports.
It is believed Ollie had presented flu-like symptoms in the days before his death and had a high temperature when he went to his parents Tuesday morning.
“The whole community is devastated,” local Independent Cllr Mary Farrell said of the loss. “Everyone’s heart is just going out to the young couple.
“They have another small baby who is about nine months. It’s devastating for any young couple to have to deal with any situation like that.
“They’re in our thoughts and prayers.”
The schools and creches in the area are said to have closed for the week as a mark of respect, with Ollie’s funeral due to take place on Friday in St Moling’s Church in Monamolin.
