Today’s Google Doodle was created by a six-year-old Dublin girl

Today's Google Doodle comes from six-year-old Erica Redmond from Dublin.

The Irish winner of the 2017 'Doodle 4 Google' competition is Dublin’s Erica Redmond, whose cute drawing entitled "My Happy Robot Tom" will appear on every Google page in the country today. Around 4,000 students submitted their entries to the internet giant under the theme "If I could create anything it would be …" with six-year-old Erica Redmond announced as the overall winner. The youngster, who attends Scoil Carmel Junior School in Firhouse, Dublin, told Silicon Republic about her winning Google Doodle:

"I designed a happy robot called Tom to help with my chores and be my friend. Tom is always happy and loves to play games with me. I gave him multicoloured legs because I love rainbows. I used all the letters from Google as parts of my robot: the Gs are ears, the Os are eyes and the L and E are my robot's power switches, connected with curly cables."

  Erica's prize includes a €5,000 scholarship towards her third-level studies, a Google Chromebook laptop for her and her teacher Ms Lea, and a €10,000 technology grant for her school. Head of Google Ireland, Fionnuala Meehan, said it’s been a fantastic year for the competition,

"We're always blown away by the standard of entries we receive and this year was no exception. It was great to see such creativity and innovation in the entries, which made it very difficult for our judges and for the public who vote for our group winners."
